My studio is located in TriBeCa neighborhood of Mannahatta, NYC. I enjoy visitors. Email below to arrange a studio visit.
My first paintings were done with a spoon drawing people and circles at the bottom of an icecream bowl. I have been looking at and creating images all of my life. I am inspired by what is inside me, including my sleeping dreams, and what is around me; particularly people, what we imagine, how we move, how we feel, what we make of it all.
Depending on the initial inspiration, I generally start with very fast gesture drawing done with an ink brush. These are often from my dreams, dance, theatre, street, or a whim of my imagination. I enlarge these drawings, working with ink, watercolor, acrylic, oils, and found objects. I start with paper, move to wood or large pieces of rice paper or silk, and then move to oils. The format starts small and gets big.
I am inspired by listening, seeing, touching, smelling, tasting, feeling...watching things move and the emotion of gesture...art and all forms of creative expression...human potential and growth. These are validating and life-affirming.
